Jim Carrey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas sequel is back in the news. Many fans have been hoping to see the green meanie on the big screen again after nearly three decades, but Taylor Momsen, who played the young Cindy Lou Who, has finally addressed the possibility.

Based on Dr. Seuss’s novel of the same title, the 2000 movie became a beloved Christmas classic. So, will fans ever get to see the “Stink, Stank, Stunk” in a potential The Grinch 2?

Momsen was only seven years old when she played the kindhearted daughter who wonders if Whoville has forgotten the true meaning of Christmas in The Grinch

While the film received mixed reviews, there’s no denying it was a box-office success, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing holiday film of all time, after the 1992 Christmas movie Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Despite high hopes for a sequel, it seems unlikely to happen anytime soon.

“Not that I know of,” Momsen told The Post at Steven Tyler’s 7th annual Jam of Janie Grammys watch party. “Some things don’t touch. Timeless classic. It’s lasted this long.”

However, back in November 2025, Momsen sounded more optimistic when discussing a potential Grinch sequel during a reunion with Carrey at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

“When Jim Carrey asks you to do something, you pay attention, so we’ll see,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

Carrey has played numerous iconic characters during his illustrious career, but there’s no denying that his role as The Grinch is probably one of the best.

Considering he’s now semi-retired, he has one condition to return for any future project: a “script written in gold ink by angels.”

Carrey did, however, return for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but it seems he’s far from reprising The Grinch unless it’s through motion capture.

“Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch… The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process,” he told ComicBook. “The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ Now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”

While filming The Grinch, Carrey had to wear a full-body prosthetic green suit and undergo hours of makeup each day before cameras started rolling.

He even suffered “panic attacks,” leading the production to hire a man trained in the military to endure torture.

But with today’s advancements in technology, it wouldn’t be surprising if a Grinch sequel were to move forward, with Carrey reprising the lead role – potentially in motion capture.
