The new Glen Powell sports comedy series, Chad Powers, recently premiered on Hulu, and fans and critics have weighed in on whether it is the next Ted Lasso.

In the midst of his rising career as a movie star, Powell is making a slight pivot to television with the new series Chad Powers. Aside from starring, he also serves as creator and executive producer of the project. The idea originated from an ESPN skit conceived by Eli Manning, who also serves as an executive producer. So what do fans and critics think of the new series?

What Do Fans and Critics Think of Chad Powers?

Following the release of the first two episodes last September 30, fans and critics online have weighed in on Chad Powers and whether it is the next sports comedy hit following Ted Lasso.

The responses so far have been mixed, as there is no united consensus on whether the series is worth watching and delivers on its promise. However, Powell's performance received positive reactions, even from the detractors of the show.

As of this writing, Chad Powers has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 58% based on the reviews from 31 critics. The consensus wrote, "Pairing Glen Powell's charms with a frequently off-putting role, Chad Powers throws comedic curveballs that often backfire but don't necessarily strike out, either."

In terms of the comparison to Ted Lasso, most critics stated that Chad Powers has not reached the level of the Apple TV+ series.

Variety wrote that it was "not as astonishing a show of Powell’s range as previous projects. Nor does it manage, as Ted Lasso did, to transcend its initial gimmick over the course of its awkwardly compressed six-episode season."

Fans online also have similar reactions, as some of them were mixed, some were satisfied with the first two episodes, while some believed that it did not deliver the hype. Nevertheless, Powell's performance is still being received enthusiastically and is cited as the reason why they will stick with the show.
