Nakaba Suzuki’s The Seven Deadly Sins manga was one of Weekly Shonen Magazine’s biggest hits in the 2010s.

Not only does the series have over 55 million copies in circulation, but it also won the prestigious Kodansha Manga Award back in 2015. Plus, the manga got an anime adaptation that became popular globally.

Since then, the series has expanded into a huge media franchise, with several anime film projects and other spinoffs. The latest proper franchise entry is the Four Knights of the Apocalypse manga.

This manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine in January 2021, and it is still written and illustrated by Nakaba Suzuki. It’s also a sequel to his original series.

Thus, the manga is set 16 years after the events of The Seven Deadly Sins, and it features lots of new characters, including a new protagonist named Percival.

While the focus is initially on the new characters, the manga has seen a wide array of fan-favorite returning characters.

As it’s billed as a proper sequel to the original series, coupled with the fact that Suzuki is creating it, Four Knights of the Apocalypse is clearly a canon story.

When it comes to anime franchises, determining if a project is canon or not can be complicated.

For instance, Dragon Ball and One Piece movies are not considered canon. This is also the case with some of the Seven Deadly Sins movies.

Given that the sequel is a full-fledged weekly manga, there’s no argument among fans about its canon status. With this sequel being canon, fans of the original should definitely check it out.

The Four Knights of the Apocalypse manga continues to get new chapters weekly. As for its anime adaptation, it’s also continuing to air in the Winter 24 season.
