Since Dragon Ball Super went on hiatus in 2024, the creators have remained tight-lipped about its return in both the manga and anime, offering only a few updates to keep fans engaged.

Many believe the break and silence are necessary following the tragic passing of Dragon Ball’s original creator, Akira Toriyama. However, there’s been recent talk about the show’s producer, Akio Iyoku, hinting at an upcoming Dragon Ball Super project.

A celebration of Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary was the theme of the radio show "All Night Japan," where Akio Iyoku answered questions, mostly about the franchise’s current hit show, Dragon Ball Daima.

When asked about future plans for the franchise, the executive producer didn’t reveal much but mentioned that there “may” be some projects lined up for announcement in 2025, according to a translation by @peraperayume on X.

He also hinted that a new game is already in production, even though Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO was just released on October 11, 2024.

This has fueled speculation that a new Dragon Ball Super movie is in the works, especially since Toei Animation’s fiscal report mentioned two films set for release in 2025-2026.

While the report didn’t specify which Toei franchise the films belong to, many believe one could be Dragon Ball, as the series typically releases a new movie every three to four years.

Adding to the excitement, Shueisha’s Jump Festa kept fans updated on what’s next for their favorite titles, including the beloved Super series.

At Jump Festa ‘25, Toyotaro, co-creator of the Dragon Ball Super manga, announced a new special chapter set for release on February 20, 2025.

This one-shot chapter will feature the Saiyan teens, Goten, and Trunks, alongside their idol, Clean God, suggesting a team-up based on the released poster.

It’s exciting news for fans of the duo, as many feel they didn’t get enough attention in Dragon Ball Z. Thankfully, Toyotaro has been giving them more focus in the manga. In the High School saga, they were given clearer motivations, allowing for more development in their personalities.

Unfortunately, anime-only viewers will have to wait to see what happens to Goku after the Tournament of Power arc, as there’s still no update on part 2 of the anime.

For now, fans can look forward to the upcoming manga chapter and hope for more anime announcements down the line.
