Eiichiro Oda will be returning to the Dragon Ball universe. It has been confirmed that the legendary One Piece creator is involved in the Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project. This special project celebrates 40 years of the late Akira Toriyama’s iconic Dragon Ball series.

Both One Piece and Dragon Ball are among the biggest anime franchises of all time, so it’s always exciting to see them come together. Wondering what’s in store? Let’s take a closer look!

What Can We Expect from the Crossover?

For long-time fans of Eiichiro Oda, it’s no secret that he’s a massive Dragon Ball enthusiast, often citing it as one of the key inspirations for creating One Piece.

The Dragon Ball Super Gallery Project, organized by Shonen Jump, celebrates the manga by having famous artists reimagine memorable Dragon Ball covers in their own styles. Since its launch in 2021, the project has featured some of the industry’s top creators, including Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen), and Hirohiko Araki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure).

Most recently, Masakazu Katsura (Video Girl Ai, Wingman) redesigned the series’ first volume. Now, Eiichiro Oda steps up to contribute by reimagining Volume 42, the final volume of the Dragon Ball manga.

This collaboration is particularly meaningful for Oda, given his deep admiration for Akira Toriyama’s work. Their shared respect has led to multiple crossovers over the years, highlighting the strong connection between their creative visions.

If you’re a new fan curious about the crossover history of these two legendary series, there’s plenty to explore!

One of the most notable collaborations is Dream 9 Toriko x One Piece x Dragon Ball Z Super Collaboration Special!!, a two-part special where Goku, Luffy, and Toriko compete in a racing contest. It’s worth noting that Netflix recently made this crossover available for streaming, so it’s a great time to check it out.

Another fan-favorite is the manga Dragon Ball x Cross Epoch, set in an alternate universe on a desert-filled island. Here, Goku and the Z-fighters team up with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates in a lighthearted adventure.

Goku and Luffy have also joined forces in various video games, including Jump Super Stars, Jump Ultimate Stars, and Jump Force.

As excitement builds for Eiichiro Oda’s take on Dragon Ball Volume 42’s cover, fans have mixed feelings. Many are thrilled, but some remain skeptical. While Oda is undoubtedly a talented manga artist, critics point out that his art style tends to lack variety. After all, he’s drawn Goku in the past looking like Luffy with a different hairstyle.
