- Quick Answer: Cruella 2 may soon be in development with Emma Stone and director Craig Gillespie creative-ready, though the project is currently navigating scheduling and script updates.
Five years after Emma Stone played the role of Cruella de Vil in the live-action reimagining Cruella, director Craig Gillespie has finally shared a promising update on its potential sequel.
For years, there have been rumors that Cruella 2 is in the works. But with nothing coming to fruition yet, could this finally be the time the fashion-forward villain returns to the big screen?
Will There Be Cruella 2?

Cruella served as an origin story for the villain of the same name before the events of 101 Dalmatians.
Even before the film entered its second weekend in theaters, Disney had already confirmed that a sequel was in development.
"We are very pleased with Cruella's box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date," a Disney spokesperson said at the time.
However, five years have passed, and the sequel has yet to see the light of day. That could soon change after director Craig Gillespie was asked whether fans would ever get to see Cruella 2.
"It's possible. That's going to be something else that's on the agenda," he told The Playlist.
Back in February, The DisInsider reported that "the odds are good," adding that "the creatives and talent want to do it," and Disney is also eager to move forward with the sequel.
However, the report noted that the script and finding the right schedule have been the project's biggest hurdles.
But Stone herself previously expressed her hope that production on Cruella 2 would begin "sooner rather than later," adding that reprising the role would be "a blast."
"We'll see… it's a work in progress," she told Variety.
What to Expect From Cruella 2

While Disney has yet to reveal any plot details for Cruella 2, the first film's ending seemingly hints at where the story could go.
Of course, fans can expect Cruella's transformation into the rebellious fashion icon known from 101 Dalmatians to continue. She may further embrace her bold alter ego while still balancing the humanity that made her a lovable antihero in the original film.
The franchise's signature high-fashion spectacle is also expected to return, as extravagant gowns and daring runway moments were among Cruella's biggest strengths, with its costume design earning widespread acclaim.
In addition, as Emma Stone is expected to reprise her role, other familiar faces, including Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser, may also return as Jasper and Horace, alongside Mark Strong, who could continue overseeing Hell Hall.
This time around, Roger and Anita may also take on larger roles as the story moves closer to the timeline established in 101 Dalmatians.
However, we recommend you take these expectations with a grain of salt, as Disney has yet to officially confirm any story or casting details for the sequel.
