In a recent interview, Blanchett revealed that she is planning to retire from acting sometime in the future.

While stepping back from the profession is not imminent, she has been seriously considering the idea.

"My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting. [There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life," Blanchett said.

The Oscar winner added that she's "spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable" as a public figure.

"When you go on a talk show, or even here now, and then you see soundbites of things you’ve said, pulled out and italicized, they sound really loud. I’m not that person," she continued.

"I make more sense in motion – it’s been a long time to remotely get comfortable with the idea of being photographed."

Blanchett concluded, "I’ve always felt like I’m on the periphery of things, so I’m always surprised when I belong anywhere. I go with curiosity into whatever environment that I’m in, not expecting to be accepted or welcomed."

Cate Blanchett's Upcoming Projects

Blanchett recently starred in the acclaimed Steven Soderbergh film Black Bag, the Apple TV+ series Disclaimer, and a new stage production of The Seagull in London.

She will be seen next in the Jim Jarmusch film Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, which is potentially one of the awards contenders this year.

With her work in Disclaimer, she is seen as one of the potential Emmy nominees later this year in the Lead Actress in a Limited Series category.
