Hazbin Hotel has a colorful cast of characters, though Alastor is perhaps one of the most complex. As such, many are wondering if Alastor is evil in Hazbin Hotel.

As this series is set in hell and follows all sorts of demons and sinners, asking if someone’s evil might be a misnomer.

It’s a fair question though, especially given the show’s protagonist, Charlie Morningstar.

Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for Hazbin Hotel, so proceed with caution.

What Is Alastor’s Relationship with Charlie Morningstar in Hazbin Hotel?

The story of Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of hell. Despite seeming like an evil character, Charlie couldn’t be farther from it as she’s incredibly sweet and compassionate.

In fact, her compassion leads her to open a hotel that aims to rehabilitate sinners in hell so that they can ascend into heaven instead of being culled in an annual purging by the angels.

Charlie owns the hotel, though she is helped by her girlfriend, Vaggie, who acts as the manager. Also helping in keeping things running are Niffty the housekeeper and Husk the concierge and bartender.

Another character who helps out is Alastor, a powerful Overlord of Hell. Instead of helping Charlie out of the goodness of his heart, Alastor is only helping for his interests.

Thus, Charlie was on guard at first with Alastor, though she grew to care for him. Meanwhile, Alastor finds Charlie funny and is rather fond of her.

Given Alastor’s nature though, it’s tough to fully know if he’s only acting that way around Charlie because of some ulterior motive.

Is Alastor Evil in Hazbin Hotel? Character Arc Explained

Technically, you can say that Alastor is evil in Hazbin Hotel given that he’s a powerful Overlord in Hell. Alastor has also been shown to be violent, with a narcissistic streak to boot.

He has a tendency to get violent at times, which is a sharp contrast to his typical charming demeanor.

To further add depth to Alastor, he has also been shown to have a more vulnerable side to him as he suffers a panic attack at one point.

Overall, it’s fair to say that Alastor is one of the most complex characters in the series. This, coupled with how he seems to be genuine in helping Charlie run the hotel, means that he may not be entirely evil.

It also helps that Alastor helped defend the hotel in the last episode. Then, his final scene in season 1 showed him returning to the rebuilt hotel and being hugged by the demons there.

You’ll see more of Alastor when Hazbin Hotel returns with its second season.
