Iron Man Actor Robert Downey Jr. Joins Christopher Nolan's Next Film

Robert Downey Jr. ended his stay in the MCU when Tony Stark died at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Since then, we haven't seen him pop up in a lot of high-profile projects except the family film Dolittle which was panned by critics and flopped at the box office. Now, it looks like he is back on track as he is going to work with one of the best working filmmakers today.

Deadline has reported that Downey Jr. is in talks to join Christopher Nolan's next film Oppenheimer. Also reported to be in talks is Matt Damon, who has also popped up in the MCU through his cameo in the Thor films as the Asgardian actor playing Loki. The details regarding their roles are still under wraps as of this time.

Nolan is directing and writing the film which will revolve around J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist behind the creation of the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project during World War II. Cillian Murphy will play the titular scientist while his A Quiet Place Part II co-star Emily Blunt is set to play his wife Katherine. The film is based on the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Universal Pictures will distribute.

This is going to be the first time that Downey Jr. will be working with Nolan and this is also the first high-profile project that he signed on after Avengers: Endgame was released. This will definitely be an interesting film for Downey Jr. to be involved in because it goes back to his pre-MCU career when he was doing films like Zodiac. We don't know what kind of role is he going to play, but we can guess that he will be playing a significant figure to Oppenheimer. It is exciting to see him in a project like this now that he is done with the MCU and hopefully it will bode well for him.
