Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Lola Tung's scenes in I Know What You Did Last Summer have been removed from the final cut, and the director has finally explained why.
Last year, the aforementioned actors were announced to be part of the cast of the 2025 legacy sequel to the hit 90s horror film. Fans were looking forward to seeing them make their jump to the big screen, but unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
Why Are Lola Tung and Nicolas Alexander Chavez No Longer Appearing in I Know What You Did Last Summer?
In an interview with People, I Know What You Did Last Summer director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson explained why Tung and Chavez's scenes were removed from the final cut.
Their characters were originally supposed to open the film, but during the editing process, it was decided that their scenes didn't fit.
"In every movie, it’s best laid plans, and then you edit the movie and you put it together and you go, ‘I love this in a vacuum. This is a fantastic scene. But it doesn’t fit in the movie,'" the director explained.
"It was just one of those situations where it had nothing to do with Lola and Nicholas — they are both so fantastic. I really would love to work with them again. I loved working with them. They did a fabulous job. But in the larger tapestry of the film, it just didn’t fit."
Robinson acknowledged that it "sucks" to remove the scenes "because you don’t want to do that to those actors. And it sucks when you love something as a scene, but that scene just doesn’t work in the final cut of the film."
So far, neither Tung nor Chavez has reacted to Robinson's decision to remove their scenes from the final cut.

I Know What You Did Last Summer serves as a legacy sequel to the 1997 horror film, with new characters and returning cast members.
Just like the original, the story focuses on friends who inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, cover up their involvement, and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.
A year later, their past comes back to haunt them, and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer and is hell-bent on revenge.
As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.
The cast includes Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, and Austin Nichols. Returning cast members from the original are Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
