While promoting her new movie The Map That Leads to You opposite Riverdale’s KJ Apa, Cline opened up about Outer Banks Season 5 and its emotional impact as the show comes to an end.

“I am crying every day,” she told ScreenRant. “It's really emotional. It's really emotional.”

The 27-year-old actress admitted she’s trying not to think about the finale yet but feels grateful despite tough days.

“But then I think about the big picture, and it’s kind of the end of an era. It’s truly one of the biggest things in my life,” she said.

Cline described being part of the mystery teen drama as one of the most important experiences in her life that has truly shaped her.

Knowing that Apa experienced something similar with Riverdale, they’ve talked about their shared experiences and how their respective shows have shaped them.

“So yeah, I do. I cry a lot, and happy tears,” she added.

Regarding production, Cline revealed they were already two and a half months into filming the fifth season.

“This past week has been all night shoots, so I’m currently nocturnal. I don’t know. I’m alive right now, but am I awake? No,” she quipped.

The previous season finale ended with the unexpected death of JJ at the hands of his biological father, Chandler (J. Anthony Crane).

“We’re planning a story of redemption, and a season that embodies the friendship JJ came to represent,” co-creator Josh Pate told Tudum. “JJ’s death was a hard but necessary part of the story, and we plan to honor the character as much as the fans do.”

As a result, the Pogues will likely do everything to avenge JJ, which will be a key part of Outer Banks Season 5.

The final season will also follow Sarah’s pregnancy with John B’s (Chase Stokes) baby and their life as new parents. It will explore Pope’s (Jonathan Daviss) journey after the killing of Lightner (Rigo Sanchez).

Additionally, the Blue Crown treasure hunt will remain central to the storyline.

Returning cast members include Cline, Stokes, Madison Bailey, Daviss, and Carlacia Grant as Sarah, John B, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo.

Though Cline’s words didn’t reveal much, JJ’s shocking death hints that anything is possible.

Outer Banks Season 5 is expected to be released in 2026.
