Kevin O'Leary, who made his acting debut in A24's Marty Supreme alongside co-star Timothée Chalamet, revealed to Variety the truth behind the infamous ping pong paddle spanking scene with the Oscar-nominated actor.
Shark Tank Star Reveals the Truth Behind Timothée Chalamet's Infamous Spanking Scene
After realizing that Milton Rockwell (played by O'Leary) could be Marty's ticket to Tokyo's world championship, Milton set his price at a humiliating feat.
The Shark Tank star noted that while Chalamet had the choice to sit out of the scene with a butt double, the 30-year-old actor insisted the film features his real rear.

"When it came time to whack him, there was a stunt a**. There was a double," O'Leary told the outlet, "[Chalamet] wouldn't do it. He said he'll do it himself. He didn't want some other a** immortalized."
This wouldn't be the first time Chalamet wanted an authentic experience on set. In fact, he also spoke highly of his other infamous peach scene in Call Me By Your Name, in which he called the "layered and complex" scene a "leap of opportunity to play that kind of role."
"You just try to do it as honestly as possible," Chalamet said at the time, reflecting on the seminal scene where his character, Elio, finished inside a peach.
How Long Did They Film THAT Marty Supreme Scene?
The spanking sequence is Marty's "pivotal scene of humiliation", according to O'Leary, but they didn't expect to film that scene for "around 40 takes."
The Shark Tank star added that they had initially decided to use a fake paddle to soften the blow. The prop, however, had different plans when it broke on the first hit, requiring the actor to use a real one. O'Leary said that shooting the scene "went on for hours until 4 in the morning."

"Josh was saying, 'You've got to wind up harder,'" O'Leary recalled, "I was really whacking [Chalamet]."
The paddle spanking scene was necessary for Marty because, as O'Leary's words said, it "pi**ed me off so much and insulted me so many times that capital punishment was correct." O'Leary admits he had "never felt satisfied that he suffered enough for what he did", adding, "Even now, I'm still pi**ed."
To Chalamet, he considered the role a "gift to his career", especially with films that have "morally ambiguous blends" so he could play "real people, real life" on the big screens.
"Marty is a real guy that has positive qualities about him. He's a big dreamer. He's a hard worker. He believes in what he believes in, his native qualities," Chalamet previously told IndieWire, "He's willing to cross lines ethically and physically to get to where he wants."
Aside from Chalamet, Marty Supreme stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Abel Ferrara, Tyler Okonma, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, Sandra Bernhard, and James Long.
