Channing Tatum recently revealed that Gambit will have a major change when he makes his return appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.

Earlier this year, Marvel Studios confirmed that Tatum will be reprising his fan-favorite X-Men role in the upcoming MCU crossover film. A lot of fans are happy that he will be playing the character again after his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine last year, and they've been looking forward to seeing what they have in store for his next appearance.

In an interview with Variety, Tatum confirmed that he is softening his Cajun accent in his return as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday.

As fans remember, it was one of the biggest punchlines in Deadpool & Wolverine. With his return in Doomsday, Marvel Studios "really had to wrap their mind around the accent and how people are going to understand him" without being the center of the joke again.

"I’m not gonna go full Cajun. [Directors Anthony and Joe Russo] want things to be funny, but they don’t want to go full Deadpool," the actor said.

"They want to keep the drama and keep it tight. When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter."

However, Tatum also shared that he had to sit out filming some of the fight scenes due to an injury on set that required him to take pain medication and physical therapy.

"It’s not about the pain I feel in the moment. It’s knowing I can’t take this back. And now I know what the next six months of my life will be like... I just hate getting old… In my mind, I’m literally still 30 years old — 26, if I’m honest," he said.

What to Expect in Avengers: Doomsday

Just like any other MCU film, the plot details regarding Avengers: Doomsday are still under wraps, but we can expect Doctor Doom to have a sizeable role.

The film features a super-sized cast led by Robert Downey Jr. Some of the core cast members in the Multiverse Saga are expected to return, including the main cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*, as well as actors from the Fox X-Men movies.

The Fox X-Men cast members that are expected to return are Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and James Marsden.

The release date is currently scheduled for December 18, 2026. Production is ongoing, and it is expected to film back-to-back with Secret Wars.
