We already know that Captain Marvel is coming after her logo was flashed in the Avengers: Infinity War post-credit scene. But why did Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) call Carol Danvers in the first place?
Kevin Feige already has an answer ready for this particular question. The Marvel Studios boss told Entertainment Weekly that Fury sent a message to Brie Larson's character because she is exactly what they need in this crisis.
OK, but something tells me Feige is leaving something important out in his statement. A younger Fury is already set to meet Carol in Captain Marvel and although he's a mere desk jockey back in the 1990s, he could witness something that will confirm why he only contacted Carol after seeing Maria Hill turn into dust.
Is it possible that Fury has been warned about Thanos' plan decades ago? Has he seen a similar disaster early in his career? We'll have to wait until Captain Marvel premieres next year to find out.
Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
