It looks like Disney is finally going to take out its last Star Wars Skywalker saga on Netflix around Christmas this year.
According to a report by What's On Netflix, Disney is planning to take out Star Wars: The Last Jedi from Netflix in the US and in Canada around December this year. The movie arrived on Netflix as part of the streaming site's deal with Disney which ran from 2016 to 2019. This deal made sure that every new Disney theatrical release would make its way on Netflix and so, as part of the deal, Episode VIII arrived on June 26.
When The Last Jedi leaves the site, Netflix will only have one Star Wars title left: Solo: A Star Wars Story. The Star Wars spinoff will eventually be removed from the site in 2020. Disney is slowly taking back its Star Wars content from Netflix so that it can prepare for its upcoming streaming site, Disney+.
Because The Last Jedi isn't set to leave Netflix until December this year, the movie won't be available to Star Wars fans during Disney+'s launch in November. Instead, the film will make its way to the streaming site sometime in 2020. Solo will follow soon after.
Released in December 2017, The Last Jedi enjoyed commercial and critical success. However, despite all of its critical acclaim, the film also ended up being one of the most divisive entries in the Star Wars franchise with a vocal minority complaining about how the movie subverted fan expectations and "misused" legacy characters like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
