For the past few weeks, HBO Max has been making a lot of decisions surrounding the future of their several projects including the cancellation of Batgirl and other DC projects that were supposed to air in the streamer. However, fortunately, it looks like that won't be the case for one of the beloved DC shows as it now has officially survived the ax.

According to Deadline, HBO Max has renewed Harley Quinn for a fourth season ahead of the third season finale that is set to air this September 15. In addition, the fourth season will have a new showrunner with Sarah Peters, who has written for the show since the first season and currently serves as the consulting producer.

Peters is replacing Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, who both have served as showrunners since the first season as well as developed the project with Dean Lorey. No reason was stated regarding why the duo stepped down as the showrunners for the next season.

"Patrick Schumacker, Justin Halpern and their incredible team of artists and writers have created something so explosively funny and original and we are thrilled to continue this journey with them and the show’s legion of fans," Billy Wee, Senior Vice President of Comedy & Animation at HBO Max, said in a statement. "It has been amazing to watch the show grow and evolve this season and we could not ask for a more talented and dedicated team of collaborators."

This renewal is good news for fans who have been anxiously waiting for updates on the future of the show ever since the streamer has been axing some of their DC projects in the past few weeks. Now, we have assurance that the show is still moving forward.

It is also certainly a sign that they are happy with the performance of the current season on the streamer and would like to continue airing it for a time being. The show is also set to have its own spin-off series that will center on Kite Man which will likely air next year.
