Hayley Atwell Wants To Direct A Movie For The MCU

It looks like Marvel Studios' Hayley Atwell wants to be known as more than just a supporting actress in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now that she's done playing Peggy Carter for the Marvel film franchise, it seems like the British-American actress known for her period pieces wants to try a hand at directing for the MCU.

Atwell just recently made a comic con appearance with Charlie Cox, and during her discussion with fans (via ComicBook.com), the Captain America: The First Avenger star revealed what she would want to do with her time now that the MCU is moving past the third phase of the franchise. Cox and Atwell were asked what other Marvel heroes they'd like to play someday, however, Atwell surprised everyone when she revealed that she was more interested in staying behind the camera.

"I'll direct a film. I would like to do that instead," she said.

Of course, we can't be quite sure whether this means that Atwell's finally going to let go of Peggy Carter. However, now that the MCU's closed Captain America's (Chris Evans) in Endgame, we're fairly certain that it would be the end of Carter's arc as well.

This may give Atwell the time and the opportunity to direct something for Marvel. The studio is planning a lot of new films for Phase 4. There's a lot of new mini-series being developed for Disney+ too. We're fairly certain that Atwell can find a place in either.

Avengers: Endgame is currently screening in cinemas.
