Hawk Tuah Girl will be sharing how her unexpected internet fame affected her in many ways in her new documentary.
The 22-year-old, whose real name is Hailey Welch, made a sex joke during an interview with YouTube influencers that went viral in 2024.
What We Know So Far About Hawk Tuah Girl’s Upcoming Documentary
Hailey Welch’s famous “Hawk Tuah” joke has brought her online recognition, but it has also led to opportunities such as launching her own podcast, creating a dating app, meeting celebrities, and now, being featured in a documentary.
According to Deadline, the film is currently being developed by Bungalow Media + Entertainment, an award-winning production company behind Surviving Jeffrey Epstein and Cyber Sleuths: The Idaho Murders.
The project is described as follows: “The documentary will chronicle how Welch, a young woman from a small town with no active social media presence, unknowingly created a viral moment that grew into a global phenomenon.”
Additionally, Welch’s documentary explores her overnight fame, from the criticism she received to an examination of the “power of social media” and its ability to make or break an online personality.
“With only a single sentence, Hailey Welch went from an unknown young woman having a night out on the town to ‘enjoying’ 15 minutes of fame to becoming a global phenomenon who cemented her status in the pop culture lexicon,” said Bob Friedman, CEO of Bungalow Media + Entertainment.
More updates on Welch's upcoming documentary will be announced later.
The Viral Moment That Changed Everything for Hawk Tuah Girl
The phrase “Hawk Tuah” put Welch on the map after two YouTube content creators, Tim and Dee TV, randomly interviewed her and her friend in Nashville, Tennessee.
They were asked, “What is one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time?”
Jokingly, she responded, “You gotta give ’em that ‘Hawk Tuah’ and spit on that thang! You get me?”
Sure, her quick wit and hilarious delivery made the clip memorable. Others also believe her accent added to the charm of the exchange.
Still, many consider it inappropriate. ‘Hawk Tuah’ is a joke about oral sex, after all. This is why she told PEOPLE in September that she was so embarrassed she avoided going out in public for two weeks.
Welch also shared in an interview on the Plan Bri Uncut podcast what it was like when the video first went viral, answering a question about how her parents and family reacted.
“They think it’s so funny. They know who I am though, ‘cause you never know what comes out of my mouth.”
Welch’s rise to fame has gained her 3 million followers, but it has also led to countless rumors and controversies—including false claims that she was fired from a teaching job at “Epstein Day School.”
Deadline also reported her response to the wild speculation: “I hope y’all been enjoying the crazy stories about ‘my life’ unfold on social media.”
She added, “First, I was dead. Then pregnant. Now I’m wanted by Interpol and in jail!”
