Anthony Mackie recently opened up about the harsh truth of achieving success as he reflects on his experiences in Hollywood.

The Captain America actor has been working in the entertainment business since the early 2000s, but he didn't make his major breakthrough until he took on the role of Sam Wilson when he joined the MCU in 2014.

Anthony Mackie Opens Up About the Harsh Truth of Achieving Success

In a recent interview on The Pivot Podcast, Mackie reflected on his experience in Hollywood throughout his career so far and candidly shared his thoughts on the truth behind achieving success.

He started by sharing that he has seen some people in the business become successful in a shorter amount of time.

"We're lying to our kids and that's a big problem in our community. We tell our kids that— and this is fresh in my heart. I literally just came to this conclusion last night," the Captain America actor said.

"We tell our kids [that] if they do right and they make good grades and they go to the programs, they will become successful if you work hard enough. Your work will be paid off and that's not true, right?"

Mackie continued, "Success is given. It's not earned. Because you can be the most brilliant, [but] if one person doesn't tap you, each one of y'all— there were people who could hit harder, who could catch better, run faster, but somebody said you're the one and the other 50 behind you fell off. You know what I mean?"

Most fans were in agreement with Mackie's remarks as they also supported his argument that luck is a huge factor in how someone becomes successful in their career and hard work is not always rewarded.

Anthony Mackie on Lack of Awards Recognition

In his profile for Esquire, Mackie also opened up about the lack of awards recognitions he has received throughout his career despite starring in Oscar-winning films.

He said that he believes that he deserves to get nominations in some of the roles that he played.

"This ain’t no overnight sh*t. It’s always apropos for me when awards season comes up. Because I know I’ve done at least four performances that could have been nominated—if not for a Golden Globe, then an Oscar or an Emmy," Mackie said.

With his taking over the mantle of Captain America in the MCU, he now sees it as his "Oscar."

Mackie remarked, "Captain America is my Oscar. Because I’ve been overlooked so many times in my career."
