What Was the Happy Gilmore 2 Tribute to Cameron Boyce?
Adam Sandler is back at it again with his Happy Madison productions, and he wasn't about to let the opportunity slip by. Cameron Boyce, who started working with him on Grown Ups, got a feature of his own in the Happy Gilmore sequel.
It's a blink and you'll miss it type of tribute. In one scene, as Adam Sandler's Happy walks up to the booth, one of the clerks is watching a scene from Disney Channel's comedy series Jessie, featuring Boyce's scene where he pulls out binoculars.
Short as it may have been, this isn't the first time Sandler paid tribute to his on-screen son. He wrote a short message in Hubie Halloween, a comedy flick in which Cameron was supposed to star, too, before his passing.

Boyce's mother, Libby, thanked Sandler for the tribute to her son through her Instagram post by recalling the days they worked together.
"Adam and Cameron talked quite a bit in the days leading up to his death," Libby wrote, "Cameron was supposed to be in Hubie Halloween, and they were strategizing. They had a bond, I think, related to being authentic, funny, and just keeping it real."
Cameron Boyce passed away at the age of 20 on July 6, 2019. He suffered "sudden unexpected death in epilepsy", according to the released autopsy report (via ABC News).
"Adam always finds a way to keep Cam's memory alive, which warms our hearts," Libby said, grateful for that on-screen tribute in the sequel.

Happy Gilmore 2 may have been a festival of cameos, but fans surprisingly found it to be one of the most enjoyable and worthwhile follow-ups in his roster of comedies. As for why it took the movie nearly 30 years to come out and why it had to be made, Sandler himself addressed that.
"It's good. We worked hard on the script. We didn't want to let anybody down," on The Hollywood Reporter, the people asking him for a sequel for a long time now, "We're really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. We're continuing to try to make it a movie that I think you'll like."
