Gwyneth Paltrow opens up about her menopause struggles, admitting that drinking every night recently has intensified her symptoms.
Speaking on a podcast, she revealed that this nightly routine began during the devastating Los Angeles fires in January.
Gwyneth Paltrow Says Nightly Drinks Intensified Menopause Struggles
Gwyneth Paltrow had a candid confession on Monday’s The Goop Podcast about how her drinking habits worsened her menopause symptoms.
The 52-year-old actress told Dr. Mary Clare Haver, OB-GYN and author of The New Menopause Book, that she has been feeling unfocused and overwhelmed because she’s “in the thick of it right now.”
“But I noticed my symptoms are, like, pretty well under control — unless, you know, in January when the fires were happening in LA. I used alcohol for its purpose,” she added.
Paltrow admitted that she drank every night during that period, describing it as “medicating.” Normally, she said, she only drinks about once a week and not much.
“My symptoms were completely out of control. It was the first time I really noticed causation in that way,” she shared, explaining that she developed anxiety that overwhelmed her and disrupted her sleep.
Paltrow, who described herself as a “real sleeper,” said, “I would lie in bed thinking about every mistake I’ve ever made, every person’s feelings I ever hurt — every bad, you know. And I would be up for six hours. It was crazy.”
Dr. Haver reassured the Iron Man star that her experience was common. She explained that many of her patients have similar struggles and often choose to reduce or quit alcohol altogether, finding that it’s no longer worth it.
“I feel like hopefully I’m coming out the other side,” Paltrow said, hopeful that the worst is behind her.
Gwyneth Paltrow Shared a Message for Those Affected in the LA Fires
Gwyneth Paltrow took to Instagram in January to express her devastation over the Los Angeles fires, which destroyed numerous homes and compelled residents to leave.
“Our beloved Los Angeles… We are in deep grief for so many of our close friends who have lost everything,” the beauty entrepreneur wrote in a heartfelt post.
Although Paltrow and her husband, Brad Falchuk, were not directly affected by the Palisades Fire, many of her close friends lost their homes in the crisis.
She also shared another message on the Goop Instagram page, writing, “Every house is a haven, and a witness to the people who made it a home. Every life is a universe.”
In addition, Paltrow, who sold her LA home for $22 million in January, announced a $2 million product donation from herself and Goop to charities supporting relief efforts.
