Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Star Will Poulter Says Method Acting Excuses 'Inappropriate Behavior'

There is little doubt that method acting is a popular technique among Hollywood's elite but not everyone is a fan. Mads Mikkelsen had previously dissed the method, claiming that the technique is "bullsh-t." Now, Will Poulter is speaking about method acting, stating it is usually being used to excuse "inappropriate behavior" and that he will never use it while working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!

Will Poulter has been working on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film where he will play Adam Warlock. But when asked whether he had tried method acting, the Maze Runner star told The Independent that he doesn't need to.

"For me, that hasn’t been necessary," Poulter said. He then pointed out that it would not be a good idea because of the roles he had previously played.

"On Detroit, my African American colleagues – who my character was responsible for brutalising – and I were all very much unified in that challenge, and we got to know each other and hung out," Poulter said.

The Chronicles of Narnia star was also quick to state that each actor has their own process to get their job done. However, they should also consider how it affects the people they work with.

"When it comes to an actor's process, whatever that is, so long as it doesn't infringe on other people's and you’re being considerate, then fine," Poulter said. "But if your process creates an inhospitable environment, then to me you've lost sight of what's important. Method acting shouldn't be used as an excuse for inappropriate behaviour – and it definitely has."

Poulter isn't the first actor to be against method acting. It was previously reported that Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore star Mads Mikkelsen is not impressed with the method, calling it "bullsh-t."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in production and is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
