Grey’s Anatomy is currently on its 18th season, and the show wouldn’t have survived if not for the collective effort of the cast and crew. However, things weren’t always peaceful on the set of the hit ABC medical drama.
Years ago, reports revealed that Isaiah Washington was fired from the show after he uttered a racial slur against his former Grey’s Anatomy co-star, T.R. Knight. At the time, the latter hasn’t come out yet.

But during a recent interview, Washington said that this wasn’t the case. In fact, the altercation was between him and Patrick Dempsey, and Knight wasn’t even there.
The actor, who played the role of Dr. Burke for three seasons, called Dempsey entitled. He also said that he lashed out at the actor after he arrived late on set for the nth time.

Did Ellen Pompeo Accept A $5 Million Paycheck To Stay Silent?
But while the allegations against Dempsey are not necessarily new, it is what Washington said about Grey’s Anatomy lead star, Ellen Pompeo that shocked the fans of the show.
Washington accused Pompeo of accepting a $5 million hush money to protect Dempsey. And the six-figure check is, allegedly, the reason why Pompeo has not said anything negative about her onscreen partner.
Patrick Dempsey Thrilled Over Ellen Pompeo’s Criticisms
In Touch Weekly, in its Nov. 15 issue, claimed that Dempsey must be thrilled that Pompeo is also being dragged into the mud. After all, this shows everyone that he’s not the only bad guy on set.
“Even though he’s being dragged through the mud again, Patrick must be delighted that Ellen’s getting some backlash, too. But Ellen isn’t the type to let it bother her. Besides, she knows Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes always has her back,” the unnamed source said.
Patrick Dempsey Terrorized The Grey’s Anatomy Set
In September, author Lynette Rice released her book titled How to Save a Life: The Inside Story ofGrey’s Anatomy. An excerpt from the book was published by The Hollywood Reporter and there were claims that Dempsey terrorized the set during his final years on the show.
“Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him. He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people,” former Grey’s Anatomy executive producer James D. Parriott told Rice. Parriott also claimed that Dempsey and Rhimes were at each other’s throats.
Former co-executive producer and writer Jeannine Renshaw told Rice that even Pompeo became frustrated at Dempsey at one point.
“She would get angry that he wasn't working as much. She was very big on having things be fair. She just didn't like that Patrick would complain that 'I'm here too late' or 'I've been here too long' when she had twice as many scenes in the episode as he did,” Renshaw said.

This revelation suggests that Pompeo did not always have a pleasant relationship with Dempsey. And she was sometimes vocal regarding her frustrations, contrary to what the tabloid claimed.
But regardless of what happened in the past, it seems that Dempsey and Pompeo have already buried the hatchet. The co-stars recently reunited in multiple episodes from Grey’s Anatomy Season 17.
