A new surgical resident joins Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 when it premieres in October. Inventing Anna’s Alexis Floyd joins the show as a new series regular, so what can fans expect from her?
Fans will see new and returning characters in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19. Though Ellen Pompeo has expressed time and over again her interest in ending the show, viewers will still see her as the lead, Dr. Meredit Grey.
Alexis Floyd Joins Grey’s Anatomy Season 19
Deadline broke the news about Floyd’s coming to Grey’s Anatomy Season 19.
She will play the role of Simone Griffin, a new first-year surgical resident who grew up in Seattle. Her character is described as “high-achieving, funny and whip-smart.”
However, she seemed to have a painful personal history with Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital that she doesn’t want to work there.
“Grey’s Anatomy, like all of Shonda [Rhimes]’ canon, is a genre re-defining show that remains masterfully committed to diversity, relevancy and vulnerability,” Floyd told Deadline. “Joining the cast in its 19th season is an immeasurable honor, and quite simply, it’s gonna be wicked fun.”
Kim Raver Hints at Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Return
Kim Raver has played the role of Dr. Teddy Altman in Grey’s Anatomy since 2009. In her 13 years in the show, will she return to reprise her role?
Teddy and her husband, Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), along with their two kids, escaped the country after it was revealed that Owen illegally gave pills to veterans as a form of assisted suicide. The family was seen inside a plane in first class.
If the couple managed to flee, would fans still see Teddy and Owen in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19?
"I mean, look, I hope that's not the way we're ending it," Raver told People. "There is still a lot to be told with these two."

However, she teased that no one knew how the series would go.
“You never know," she continued. "You have to keep everyone sort of wanting to tune in at the end of September. I just think there are still stories to be told."
Raver also hinted that Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 would be “insane.”
"It's like the bomb exploding and what is the fallout going to be? What show can pull off 19 years?" she teased. "I think that's real credit to Krista Vernoff, Debbie Allen and Shonda Rhimes, and all of the writers. That's a really hard thing to do. To do that finale she did and to pull that off after all these seasons, of everyone going, 'Wait, what is happening?'"
Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Plot and Release Date
Grey’s Anatomy Season 18’s intense two-hour finale left fans with a lot of questions and a major cliffhanger.
Grey Sloan’s residency program was already canceled, while Meredith might leave Seattle or become the hospital’s chief of surgery.
No one knows what Meredith will choose between the two after Bailey (Chandra Wilson) quits and Meredith gets the job offer. If she accepts, it means she has to leave Nick (Scott Speedman), and their relationship seems to be hanging on the finale.
With a lot of twists and turns happening, the future of Grey Sloan seems to be up in the air, and these questions will finally be answered in the premiere of Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 on October 6 on ABC.
