Even since the time of Zack Snyder’s DCEU, fans have been wondering when a new Green Lantern was going to be introduced. A Lanterns series had languished in development hell for a few years, but now it looks like James Gunn and Peter Safran are pushing forward with a show that will feature an older Hal Jordan and a younger John Stewart.

Word has gone out that Josh Brolin (Dune, Deadpool) has been offered the part of an older and grizzled Jordan, and while he does seem to be a great pick, there are some who thought that he could be too old to play the famous DC hero.

Josh Brolin's Rumored Green Lantern Casting Sparks Hilarious Memes

With a lot of fans confused at why they would want to cast an older Brolin to play Jordan, some fans had decided to run with the joke of older actors getting cast as DC heroes; and they make posts in a way that it seems like legitimate news headlines.

Check this out:

The meme even started coming up with some more absurd casting rumors:

Admittedly, it does feel like the meme is just poking fun at some people who can’t seem to grasp why Brolin would be offered the role of Hal Jordan. After all, if they want to do a buddy-cop dynamic, Brolin does seem to be a great pick.

Probably the best example of this would be Brolin playing a younger Agent K in MIB 3 opposite Will Smith. It can even be pointed out that Agents K and J had started with the old/young dynamic, but by the time Brolin stepped in, both K and J were experienced agents.

Interestingly enough, the Lanterns series has been compared to Men in Black, but instead of cops that deal with aliens on Earth, they actually have to deal with alien crimes in space.

Just in Case Brolin Says No

Though Brolin may be the top pick to play Hal Jordan for the series, there is said to be a shortlist of actors who will be offered the role should he decline. According to Nexus Point News, other actors being eyed for the role include Timothy Olyphant (The Book of Boba Fett) and Chris Pine (Wonder Woman, Star Trek). Other sources also claim that Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar) are also part of the shortlist for would-be Hal Jordans.

Should Brolin get cast though, some think that it would be a hilarious bit of meta-casting, seeing that he had starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2; that would mean that the leads of that film—Deadpool and Cable—have also played Green Lantern Hal Jordan.

There’s even this clip re-emerging online of Brolin teasing Reynolds about Green Lantern being a critical flop:

As of the time this article is being written, Brolin’s decision has yet to be made public, but Hal Jordan would be his fourth comic book role, and second DC role. Besides Thanos and Cable, he also played Jonah Hex almost 15 years ago.

No release date has been set for the Lanterns series, but fans should expect it to come out on Max.
