There is little doubt that Ghost In The Shell was one of the first animes to make a huge impact internationally. The 1995 adaptation of the Masamune Shirow manga was a groundbreaking masterpiece that a cult following despite being a box office failure.
Now fans have the chance to see the film on the really big screen. The Ghost In The Shell 4K Remaster is set for release in IMAX theaters across North America.
The official Twitter account for the spin-off series Ghost In The Shell: SAC_2045 has shared the news about the film's IMAX debut. Amazingly, the tweet confirms that the Ghost In The Shell 4K Remaster will be hitting IMAX screens in the US in September.
The awesome news gets even better as Ghost In The Shell is also set for a home release in October. Needless to say, it's time for the new generation to experience Major Motoko Kusanagi's search for the Puppet Master.
Ghost In The Shell is directed by Mamoru Oshii and was released in 1995. An updated version of Ghost In The Shell 2.0 was released in 2008 and it featured the original footage mixed with updated animation. A non-canon sequel Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence was released in 2004 while the ONA series Ghost In The Shell: SAC_2045 was released on Netflix in April 2020.
Ghost In The Shell 4K Remaster will premiere in selected IMAX theaters in Japan and the US on September 17, 2021. The remastered version is set for home release on October 1, 2021.
