Gal Gadot encountered agonizing headaches in her last pregnancy due to a condition that nearly took the lives of both her and her child.
The Wonder Woman star shared her story on a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon while promoting her upcoming movie, Snow White.
Gal Gadot Reveals Life-Threatening Blood Clots That Almost Cost Her Life During Pregnancy
In her latest pregnancy, Gal Gadot revealed she had suffered from “major headaches” that she couldn’t ignore, which led to the discovery of large blood clots in her brain.
The Israeli actress shared her terrifying experience on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 10, recounting how her life and her baby's were in danger.
“I had a huge scare. All of a sudden, I realized what it means to be scared to death,” Gadot said, assuring the host that she’s now doing well. “I had major headaches for three weeks. I've seen doctors and different neurologists.” The 39-year-old explained that specialists initially attributed her symptoms to migraines or hormones.
After enduring “crazy headaches” for three weeks, her mom urged her to get an MRI.
“I had a brain clot, and it was a huge one. Like, three. I had three. When I do something, I do it all the way,” she revealed, noting that she also shared this on Instagram in December.
Gadot mentioned undergoing a thrombectomy after doctors at LA’s Cedars-Sinai Hospital delivered her baby. She also expressed gratitude to the medical team that saved her life.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, a thrombectomy is performed to remove a blood clot from an artery or vein. The procedure involves making an incision in the blood vessel to extract the clot and repair the vessel. Ignoring blood clots can cause them to travel to the lungs, which can be fatal.
“You’ve got to advocate for your health. Our bodies are always communicating with us,” the action movie icon told the audience. “We just need to listen and get checked.”
Now a mother of four girls, Gadot shared her story to help others who might face similar experiences. She encouraged people to “over-check” themselves rather than dismiss symptoms.
“Just love yourself, check yourself, and be on top of your health.”
Gal Gadot’s On Playing The Role of a Villain in Snow White
Gadot spoke with Fallon on his show Monday about her experience playing the villain in Disney's upcoming live-action movie, Snow White.
The Hollywood star shared that her husband, Jason Verano, and her children—Alma (13), Maya (8), Daniella (3), and Ori (1)—haven't seen the movie yet, and she's nervous about how they'll react to her portrayal of the Evil Queen in the film based on the classic fairytale.
“They’re so used to seeing me play the straight heroine,” said Gadot, who starred as the protagonist in the DC movies Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. She also admitted feeling anxious when delivering the infamous “Mirror, Mirror” line.
When asked how much she enjoyed playing the villain this time, she responded, “It’s so much fun! It's so great. We can be everything that we never get to be.”
Starring Rachel Zegler and Gadot, Snow White will hit theaters on March 21.
Directed by Marc Webb, the film has faced controversy due to replacing the seven dwarfs with modernized “magical creatures” of various shapes, sizes, and genders. However, Gadot mentioned that, like the 1937 animated classic, the live-action version is a musical, and she gets to sing in it.
