The Last of Us co-stars Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez are set to star together in the gay romance movie De Noche that will be directed by Todd Haynes.
The project has been in the works for the last few years, with Joaquin Phoenix originally attached to star. However, he ended up exiting due to unknown reasons, and, since then, it has been stalled with no certainty on whether it will move forward. Now, fortunately, it is back on track with the stars of the hit series starring this time around.
What is Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez's Gay Romance Movie About?
Variety officially confirmed that De Noche is set to begin production next month. Pascal and Ramirez are officially starring in the long-gestated project.
Todd Haynes is directing the film and co-wrote the screenplay. It will echo the classic noir films such as Chinatown.
The story charts the passionate and unexpected love affair between a cop (Pascal) and a boarding school teacher (Ramirez) in 1930s Los Angeles, when the city is overtaken by corruption and the world is on the brink of war. The two men become targets of the city’s corrupt political machine and are forced to flee to Mexico.
"This story, with Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez in the two leads, arises out of an era — all too relevant to our own — of domestic corruption, racial exploitation, and global terror," Haynes said of the project in the announcement.
"But it emerges as a testament to the inexplicable powers of desire and love to survive and overcome even the most crippling of human barriers."
So far, no release window has been set for the film.
Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez's Collaborations
De Noche will not be the only film in which Pascal and Ramirez are set to star together. They are also reprising their respective MCU roles in Avengers: Doomsday and, potentially, Avengers: Secret Wars.
They previously shared scenes in the second season of The Last of Us, where they were on opposite sides. Ramirez's character, Manny, is part of Abby's team that killed Pascal's character, Joel.
However, Ramirez had to drop out of the series ahead of the third season due to "scheduling conflicts." De Noche is potentially one of the reasons he was prevented from returning in The Last of Us, as well as his MCU commitments this year.
