Beloved actor and comedian Jim Carrey is currently being eyed to play the lead role in the long-gestating live-action movie remake of The Jetsons.

For the past few decades, there have been attempts to do a live-action adaptation of the iconic Hanna-Barbera animated series, following in the footsteps of The Flintstones and Scooby-Doo. However, none of them have been successful. Now, it looks like the project might finally happen with the involvement of an A-list star.

According to TheWrap, Jim Carrey is currently in talks to star in the long-awaited live-action movie remake of The Jetsons that is in the works at Warner Bros.

The A-list comedian-actor will likely play the role of George Jetson, the patriarch of the titular family. No casting details have been made yet for the other members of the futuristic clan.

Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is attached to helm the film and co-write the script with Joe Epstein. The project is still in early stages.

Carrey has not been active in the show business over the last few years compared to the heyday of his movie star days, but he has starred in all Sonic the Hedgehog movies as fan-favorite antagonist Dr. Robotnik. This would mark his first non-Sonic project in the last few years.

There is no guarantee yet on whether the project will move forward to the production stage soon, as it is still in development. Considering that IP projects are common nowadays, it wouldn't be surprising if it gets a green light at some point.

Is The Jetsons Available to Stream?

In the meantime, fans might be in the mood to rewatch The Jetsons on streaming and relive the adventures of the titular family in the utopian future.

In the United States, all three seasons are available to watch anytime on Hulu. It is also being broadcast on Boomerang and MeTV Toons alongside the other Hanna-Barbera animated shows.

A few years ago, the direct-to-video animated film The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania! was also released, which serves as a crossover between The Jetsons and the WWE property. It is available to buy or rent on VOD platforms. It remains the most recent project centering on The Jetsons.
