Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd recently opened up about the release of the new biopic, Swiped, which depicts her rise in the tech industry.
The Hulu/Disney+ original film explores Herd's inspiring story of how she became the world's youngest female billionaire and revolutionized the dating app landscape with the creation of Bumble. Lily James stars in the film as Herd and also serves as producer. This is the first Hollywood project that tackled her life story.
What Does Whitney Wolfe Herd Think of the Swiped Biopic?
In a recent interview with CNBC, Herd weighed in on being the basis of the new biopic Swiped, to which she admitted that she "can't make it through the whole trailer" and found it to be "too weird."
She was not involved in the making of the project and revealed that she asked her lawyers to try to shut down the movie, but it was unsuccessful since she is a public figure.
"No, I'm not involved in it. Frankly, I was informed about this movie after it was already off to the races. I think they had already written the script and done all these things. I even was asking my lawyer two years ago, like, ‘What do I do? I don't want a movie about me. Shut it down!'" the Bumble founder said.
"[However, my lawyer responded,] 'There's nothing you can do, you're somewhat of a public figure, there's public information out there, they're going to do what they're going to do.'"
Herd has no plans to watch the film anytime soon, as she is not yet ready to see her life get the Hollywood treatment, but she praised the casting of James.
"I don’t know if I’m going to watch it or not. I'm obviously both terrified and maybe slightly flattered? But I think the strangeness and the fear of it outweighs any flattery," she said.
"Listen, we'll just see. I guess I gotta get some popcorn and stay tuned. But I am honored that they chose Lily James, she's a talented actress."
