Frieren and Denken Compete for a Stille in the First Class Mage Exam
Denken is an old man renowned for his strength, which is in no way inferior to that of a first-class mage. It is said that he only desires money and power and has ridden himself through political opponents more than once or twice.
Now, Denken is an imperial mage who doesn’t see the value in being a first-class mage but is still eager to pass the exams due to his ulterior motive.
While one wants to get the privilege that comes with the title, Denken only wants to return to his hometown and visit the cemetery.
Denken also knows about Frieren being the legendary mage who was once part of the Heroes’ Party that defeated the Demon King.
Even so, Denken feels confident that his experience will be able to overpower Frieren and defeat her.
As the first stage of the exams unfolded, Denken and his party stole the Stille, which Frieren, Lawine, and Kanne had a hard time capturing.
By using a folk spell, Laufen managed to steal the bird before Frieren could do anything about it.
To get it back, Frieren will have to defeat Denken, while Lawine and Kanne deal with Richter.
Frieren vs Denken: Who Wins Between the Two Powerful Mages?
Frieren defeats Denken by dragging the match and being too forceful. She pushed Denken to his limits, ultimately draining his mana to zero.
While Denken throws a wide variety of offensive magic spells like tornado conjuration magic, wind to hellfire magic, and light of judgment magic, Frieren is able to counter every single one of them easily.
In the end, Denken was left without mana despite Frieren only using strict basic combat magic, similar to Fern, who defeated Ehre with basic magic attacks earlier in the exams.
Denken thought that Frieren only saw their bout as a sparring match with an apprentice. Even though Denken has reached heights throughout his career, he still can’t take on the legendary elven mage, Frieren.
With this, Genau, who proctored the exams, was surprised that someone like Frieren could defeat a veteran and experienced mage like Denken.
