The full trailer for Disney's live-action Aladdin gives us a better look at Will Smith's genie, and while the original movie was full of pop-culture references, it seems that the trailer has given away a nod to Smith's time on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
It was Reddit user eulergrj that pointed out that the magic carpet was actually dancing ‘The Carlton' during his short sequence in the trailer:
Is it just me, or Carpet was doing Carlton dance?

Just in case you didn't know, the Carlton Dance was made popular by actor Alfonso Ribeiro in Smith's show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The dance had even made headlines recently after Ribeiro decided to sue Fortnite over its use. Hopefully, he doesn't feel the need to sue Disney over using the dance for Aladdin.
Besides the Carlton, I also think that the scene where Genie literally ‘makes' a prince was also a reference to the show. I mean, he literally makes a ‘fresh prince' come out of thin air. Even the color scheme of the robes looks like it was something out of the 90s.
While there was a lot of backlash with the earlier teasers, I think people are now over the fence for this movie. The production value looks amazing, and Smith always brings it with his natural charisma. Let's hope he does Robin Williams proud.
Catch Aladdin in theaters May 24.
