The spooky season is upon us, and you might be in the mood to watch some great slasher movies released in 2024.

For decades, the slasher subgenre has always been a staple in horror whether it's the iconic Friday the 13th franchise or the recent entries in the cinematic world such as Terrifier and Ti West's X trilogy.

You might be looking for recommendations on some of the best slasher movies released this year. Fortunately, we have a list just for you.

The third installment in the Christmas-themed slasher film franchise made its premiere at last month's Fantastic Fest to rousing success. It currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 82%.

Fortunately, the public will be able to watch Terrifier 3 very soon as it is slated to release in theaters this weekend. It follows the continuing terrorization of Art the Clown as he is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County on Christmas Eve.

If you are a huge fan of the first two films, you will likely enjoy this one as well based on the reviews. If you have not stepped into the world of Terrifier yet, this will also be a great time to do it.

From the twisted minds who brought you Ready or Not and the Scream reboot films, the latest picture from the Radio Silence team follows a group of criminals who kidnapped the ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure and retreat to an isolated mansion. Little did they know that the young girl that they kidnapped was no ordinary human.

The star-studded cast consists of Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Giancarlo Esposito, Alisha Weir, Kevin Durand, and the late Angus Cloud (the last film that he shot before his tragic passing).

Abigail currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83% and critics praised it for dancing "around the familiarity of its premise with a game cast and slick style."

MaXXXine

The third installment in Ti West's X trilogy follows adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx as she navigates Hollywood in the 1980s while being targeted by a mysterious killer.

Following the massive success of the first two films, West and the trilogy's star Mia Goth collaborated again to give us the exciting conclusion of Maxine's journey.

MaXXXine currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 73%. While not as glowing as the previous films, it was still praised for its glorious production design, Goth's performance, and exploration of the show business.

Following the success of the maligned first film, independent filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield returns with another installment of their horror take on the iconic A.A. Milne character.

Just like in the first film, the sequel continues Winnie-the-Pooh's killing spree as he and his friends take their fight to Ashdown and leave a bloody trail on their mayhem.

The reception has improved this time as it has a decent Rotten Tomatoes score of 46%. A shared cinematic universe is also being planned with Frake-Waterfield intending to do more horror films based on classic childhood characters.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 follows a young couple who is forced to spend the night in a remote cabin after their car breaks down in an eerie small town. However, they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike no mercy.

It is the relaunch of The Strangers film series, and it is the first installment in the planned trilogy of movies with the second film slated for release later this year (although that seems to be unlikely now).

The film was a modest success as it grossed $47.8 million worldwide, and it only had a budget of $8.5 million. This could be your time to watch it before the release of the subsequent movies.
