Finn Wolfhard recently admitted that he was worried about potential backlash on the final season of Stranger Things, similar to what happened in the Game of Thrones finale.

Later this year, the Netflix mega-hit will be releasing its long-awaited final chapter, and fans are already anticipating how they will wrap the story for our favorite characters in Hawkins. However, there is also fear about whether they will be able to stick the landing and give a satisfying conclusion, considering the massive hype surrounding its release.

Why Finn Wolfhard Prepared for Potential Backlash on Stranger Things Finale

In an interview with Time magazine, Wolfhard revealed that there was pressure surrounding the finale of Stranger Things, as he feared that it might receive backlash from fans just like in Game of Thrones.

As fans remember, the final episode of Game of Thrones received polarizing reactions and, to this day, it is still being debated by the fan community on whether it was a satisfying conclusion.

"I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly. The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen,’" he said.

However, the actor's worries were eventually shot down after reading the scripts, and he felt that fans would be satisfied by how the series would conclude.

"But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special," Wolfhard added.

Co-creator Matt Duffer also admitted in the same interview that they felt that it was time for closure after realizing that the actors had grown up, and it had become a running joke among fans.

"We can’t kick any more cans down the road. Every character’s arc has to be resolved," he said.

What to Expect in the Final Season of Stranger Things

According to the logline for the final season of Stranger Things, set in the fall of 1987, "Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding."

"As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time."

Aside from Wolfhard, the cast for the final season includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux, and Linda Hamilton.

The final season will be released later this year across three phases: Volume 1 (four episodes) on November 26, Volume 2 (three episodes) on Christmas Day, December 25, and Volume 3 (the final episode) on New Year's Eve, December 31.
