We already know that Johnny Depp is the major villain in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. However, a new featurette reveals how Gellert Grindelwald will actually manage to convince wizards into his dark cause.
The featurette turns the spotlight on Depp's character. Although Gellert already looks menacing, author J.K. Rowling says he knows how to make wizards turn against Muggles.
"The crimes of Grindelwald have been crimes of violence and terror. But we also see his immense seductive power," Rowling states. Depp offers some insight on how the villain thinks, admitting that his character "is convinced that the only way forward is total domination over the people."
Eddie Redmayne has the best description of how Gellert plans to dominate the Muggles. "Grindelwald believes that wizards should no longer live in hiding and that Muggles should be ruled over by wizards and witches. He justifies everything to himself and makes it appear rational. In fact, at moments, appealing, and that's how he's clawing people to his cause."
Rowling makes it clear that Fantastic Beasts 2 will focus on Gellert.
Depp might still be returning for the Fantastic Beasts 2 sequel but the actor will not be a part of the reported Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. It has recently been revealed that Depp has been dropped from the Disney project.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will premiere on November 16.
