Film and television actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo passed away on Monday morning at the age of 61 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona.
The late actor started his career as a football player for the Los Angeles Rams before he was released and later turning to acting as he made his film debut as Laikai "The Slender" Manumana in the 1991 cult classic Necessary Roughness.

Tuiasosopo's son Manoah Peter confirmed in a statement that his father Peter Navy Tuiasosopo has died at the age of 61 due to heart complications.
"With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16 am," he wrote.
"My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here. His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt."
Tuiasosopo is considered to be a trailblazer for Polynesian actors. Aside from Necessary Roughness, he also starred in films such as Street Fighter, BASEketball, Charlie's Angels, The Fast and the Furious, and Speed Racer.
He also made guest appearances in TV series such as The Young and the Restless, NCIS, New Girl, Ray Donovan, Black-ish, and Mayans MC.
