  • Quick Answer: Lois and Stewie finally communicate in Family Guy's 450th episode after Lois consumes edibles, allowing her to understand Stewie’s speech for the first time ever.

The recently aired 450th episode of Family Guy featured the Lois and Stewie Griffin moment that fans have been waiting for in the show's history.

Since the earlier years of the hit animated show, Lois and Stewie had a tumultuous mother-son relationship. While Lois has always been motherly and supportive, Stewie, on the other hand, has been occasionally rude and dismissive of his mother's actions. Not only that, they have no proper communication at all since Lois doesn't understand what Stewie has been saying.

After 27 years, Lois and Stewie finally communicated in the 450th episode of Family Guy titled "Edible Arrangement," which also serves as the 24th season premiere.

In this milestone episode, Lois understood every single word that Stewie said to her after taking marijuana edibles. While the moment was driven by a drug intake, it's still historic for fans, nonetheless.

The mother-son pair had an honest conversation about Lois' chaotic marriage with Peter, her relationship with her children, and why Stewie has been rude to Lois all these years. It's a therapeutic and deep moment between the two characters, while still mixing the show's signature dark humor.

By the end of the episode, the two characters woke up sober and did not entirely remember their heart-to-heart moment. Things went back to normal, as Stewie wanted to kill his mother after he was denied an Oreo cookie.

The episode was already teased before, when voice stars Alex Borstein and Seth MacFarlane performed a live table read of the episode as part of the show's 25th anniversary celebration at PaleyFest.

Why the Family Guy 450th Episode Was Therapeutic for Alex Borstein

In an interview with TVLine, Borstein, who voices Lois Griffin, opened up about the making of the 450th episode and explained why it became therapeutic for her.

"It's not something I ever thought I needed, but boy did I need it," she said. "It was so extremely therapeutic, not just as Lois, but also for me as a mom. This is going to sound like bulls***, but honestly, I think it's my favorite episode. It's such an absurdist depiction of the mother-son relationship and all the weird layers that are there. I think it hits on so many levels, and it's also really funny."

If you want to see more of Stewie and Lois-focused episodes, this is exciting news for you since it has inspired writers to come up with future storylines for the two characters.

"It springboards a lot of future ideas. As soon as we started recording this one, it was like, 'Oh, this would be really cool. Well, what if we take this and do this in the future?' So hopefully we'll see more adventures of the two of them," Borstein said.
