After a two-year absence, former "The Flash" star Ezra Miller made a notable return to the spotlight at the Cannes Film Festival, marking their first public appearance. Here's what prompted their comeback.
Ezra Miller Stuns at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival After Two-Year Absence
The 32-year-old, award-winning actor surprised fans and paparazzi by making their way into the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in France on May 17, marking the first time the star made his comeback since The Flash's premiere in Los Angeles in June 2023.
As per Variety, Miller was speeding down the red carpet while sporting a full burgundy tux and trousers, a long hair and a beret.
According to the news outlet, the Perks of Being a Wallflower star attended the festival in support of director Lynne Ramsay, who once worked with Miller on the 2011 movie, We Need to Talk About Kevin.
This year's Cannes Film Festival, Die My Love, serves as Ramsay's fourth feature film after Ratcatcher in 1999, Morvern Callar in 2002, Miller's 2011 flick, and You Were Never Really Here in 2017.
Die My Love stars Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, and Nick Nolte, in which the horror-comedy depicts the story of a mother who struggles to maintain her sanity while battling with psychosis.
Though Miller has been keeping a low profile since their 2023 premiere and intense allegations, their past didn't stop them from showing up for Ramsay's own red carpet premiere.
What Happened to Ezra Miller the Last Time They were Seen in Public?
Miller has kept himself out of the spotlight since DC's The Flash. Not only had the flick flopped at the box office, but the actor faced a series of serious allegations that involved reportedly choking a woman and several arrests in 2022.
In April 2020, Miller was caught on camera allegedly choking a woman while taunting the stranger, "You wanna fight?" as heard off-camera. E! News confirmed the incident took place at Prikið Kaffihús pub in Iceland.
But that was just the beginning of their string of crimes.
Miller had also been arrested twice in Hawaii, once for disorderly conduct and harassment and another time for second-degree assault.
As per the police report obtained by E! News, Miller reportedly became "agitated" when other people started singing karaoke at the local bar. Miller started "yelling obscenities" and at one point, "grabbed the microphone from a 23-year-old woman singing karaoke."
According to the police, Miller later "lunged at a man playing darts."
At another time, the Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore actor allegedly threw a chair, "striking a 26-year-old female on the forehead, resulting in an approximate half-inch cut" at a private residence in Puna.
Though the actor was released after posting $500 bail, they were also summoned in Vermont Superior Court in 2022 for one count of burglary and one count of petit larceny. Miller pleaded not guilty to both.
Following these incidents, Miller decided to announce they were "seeking treatment" after experiencing "a time of intense crisis."
According to the actor, he had been suffering "complex mental health issues" and had "begun ongoing treatment" to "get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage of their life."
