With the "curse" of video game adaptations officially broken by recent industry hits, the mission to bring Solid Snake to the big screen has never been more vital for Sony. Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming live-action adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.
Why is There a Metal Gear Solid Live-Action Movie?
The push for a Metal Gear Solid adaptation most likely stems from the massive resurgence of high-quality video game adaptations like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Last of Us.
Sony Pictures is looking to capitalize on Hideo Kojima's legendary stealth-action franchise, which has sold over 65.5 million copies and is widely regarded as one of the most "cinematic" series in gaming history.
With an action and story-packed lore spanning decades of Cold War espionage and sci-fi intrigue, Metal Gear Solid has the potential to become a tentpole franchise set to have the studio rise higher in the industry.
Who are the Filmmakers Set to Create the Metal Gear Solid Movie?

Filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who gained newfound success ($317 million gross) in Final Destination: Bloodlines from New Line Cinema, have been called upon to strike a deal with Sony Pictures.
This would mark the first time that the sci-fi and spy stealth combat game would be adapted for the big screen.
After Sony Pictures managed to snare two of the best moviemakers around, Lipovsky and Stein have struck a deal to direct the Sony Columbia Pictures adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. This project is part of a newly inked first-look deal with the directors' production banner, Wonderlab, which aims to focus on high-concept, character-driven event films for the studio.
"Zach and Adam are thrilling storytellers, masters of visuals and suspense, and two of the most impressive director/producers working today," said Sony Pictures' Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch in a statement, "With projects across all the company's film labels, we are so happy to create a home for them, and proud to have them as part of the Sony family."
Producing the feature is the father-and-son team Avi Arad and Ari Arad (Spider-Verse, Iron-Man, Venom, etc.)
While fans have long championed Oscar Isaac for the Solid Snake role, the recent creative overhaul has left his involvement in question. As of writing, nothing has been officially confirmed yet for the cast.
