Based on one of James Patterson’s most prolific characters, fans have seen numerous adaptations of Alex Cross, from Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider to Tyler Perry in Alex Cross.

However, there’s no denying that Aldis Hodge’s portrayal of Alex is likely one of the best. The first season followed Alex investigating the murder of a Black Lives Matter activist named Emir.

His bosses wanted to label his death as a drug overdose to close the case, but Alex sensed something was amiss.

As his investigation unfolded, he crossed paths with the powerful local millionaire Ed Ramsey (Ryan Eggold).

Behind his charming facade, Ed is a serial killer who hunts people resembling historical serial killers he idolizes, locks them up, tortures them, and transforms them into the images of his idols.

After a tense cat-and-mouse chase, Alex finally caught Ed, while Ed’s former cop accomplice, Bobby Trey (Johnny Ray Gill), was brought down for all the murders. Ed was declared clinically insane and sentenced to life in prison.

The first season of Cross began a year after Alex’s wife, Maria (Chaunteé Schuler Irving), was killed.

Alex was trying to pick up the pieces of his life, caring for his two children with the help of his mother, Regina “Nana Mama” (Juanita Jennings), while grappling with complicated feelings toward Elle (Samantha Walkes).

Amidst all this, everyone around Alex urged him to go to therapy, but he refused. He continued to work, unaware that someone from his past had been tormenting his family: Peter Lenox (Ryan Allen).

Peter came close to being accused of murder until his adoptive mother, Nancy (Karen Robinson), pressured his adoptive sister, Deirdre (Jessica Clement), to take the fall. While in prison, Deirdre’s mental state appeared to deteriorate, and when Alex met her, he declared her a psychopath.

However, Deirdre was only acting, feeling depressed at being imprisoned for a crime she didn’t commit. As Alex urged the justice system to keep her locked up, resulting in a life sentence, she tragically took her own life. Both Nancy and Peter blamed Alex for her death.

Cross Season 1 ended with Peter attacking Regina after showing up at Alex’s home. Fortunately, Regina survived, and Alex began learning more about Peter, his mother, and the troubled Deirdre.

Alex tried his best to protect Nancy and her family from Peter, unaware of what Nancy had truly done. As her true nature was revealed, Nancy tragically set herself on fire in her cabin.

With the immediate danger gone and the case seemingly closed, life appeared to return to normal for Alex until Elle became disappointed at being kept in the dark. Their relationship ended, and Alex visited Maria’s grave, finally deciding to seek therapy.

In Cross Season 2, Alex will continue solving cases while dealing with family challenges. The new season introduces fresh faces, including Matthew Lillard, alongside more criminals for Alex to analyze, investigate, and catch.

The eight-episode Cross Season 2 will premiere on Prime Video on February 11.
