Euphoria star Eric Dane revealed that he's been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) ahead of filming his scenes for the third season.
The veteran actor is known for playing controversial character Cal Jacobs in the hit HBO series. He previously starred as Mark Sloan in the earlier seasons of Grey's Anatomy.

In his statement to People, Dane revealed that he was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 52 years old.
Despite the diagnosis, he is still committed to returning to work on season 3 of Euphoria and reprise the role of Cal Jacobs.
"I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter," he said.
"I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time."
In case you're not familiar, ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rare degenerative disease that causes progressive paralysis of the muscles. Patients first experience twitching or weakness in a limb, often followed by slurred speech. Unfortunately, there is no known cure.

So far, the details regarding Cal Jacobs' storyline in Euphoria season 3 are still under wraps.
After season 2 aired, Dane teased what might be in store for his character in the upcoming season.
"There’s gonna be redemption [for Cal]. I can’t judge the character. That’s a dead end street for any actor. So I didn’t pass any judgments on Cal. But I did know that eventually there was going to be a moment of truth and some sort of redemption for him," he said.
Production for Euphoria season 3 already started last January. Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, and Hunter Schaefer are some of the regular cast members who are expected to return.
