It might have taken Disney a while to develop its live-action adaptation of Artemis Fowl, but now it looks like the Mickey Mouse House has finally dropped the very first teaser trailer for its family-friendly adventure film.
Posted on YouTube, the teaser trailer for Artemis Fowl shows some pretty epic scenes featuring the young billionaire Artemis (Fredia Shaw) and his bodyguard, Domovoi Butler (Nonso Anozie). Though the video doesn't really give away too many details about the film's story, fans already know that Artemis and Domovoi are trying to rob the fairies that live underneath the crust of the world. It's the fairies that viewers first listen to in the teaser – speaking about their world in danger, a fairy tries to explain why their race has been driven underground, warning Artemis that he isn't prepared to know the truth.
For those who aren't quite familiar with the film's source material, Artemis Fowl is based on a series of eight science fiction fantasy novels of the same name written by Eoin Colfer. The books were a big hit back in the late 90s, receiving positive critic reviews and big sales. This upcoming film is to cover the events of the first book in the series.
Here's the official synopsis of the upcoming live-action adaptation of Artemis Fowl.
"Directed by Kenneth Branagh and based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, ARTEMIS FOWL follows 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father's disappearance."
Starring Shaw, Anozie, Lara McDonnel, Tamara Smart, Josh Gad, and Judi Dench, Artemis Fowl is set for release August 9, 2019.
