First Trailer for Disney’s Jungle Cruise Shows Emily Blunt and the Rock Go on a Fantastical Adventure

Disney had made box office gold with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and it seems that they want to make more films based on Disneyland rides. Haunted Mansion didn't do so well, but now we have our first trailer for Disney's Jungle Cruise.

Here's the official description:

Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney's JUNGLE CRUISE is an adventure-filled, Amazon-jungle expedition starring Dwayne Johnson as the charismatic riverboat captain and Emily Blunt as a determined explorer on a research mission. Also starring in the film are Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti.

From the get-go, you can feel a lot of attempts at trying to capture the same magic of the Pirates franchise. We have some supernatural villains as well as some hijinks with some natives. We also have a lot of the Rock's signature action-comedy with Blunt playing a determined strong woman character.

The film had also gotten a snag at the controversy with Jack Whitehall playing what is said to be a gay character, but it seems that Disney has brushed that issue off without any real change to the film.

Seeing as I'm not really a fan of Disney remakes, I'm more open to these ‘risky' original projects. Hopefully, this launches a new franchise for Disney, but I just honestly want a well-contained adventure that doesn't feel the need to build things up for a sequel.

Catch Jungle Cruise when it hits theaters July 24.
