Hollywood A-listers Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio are set to star together in a new Martin Scorsese movie.
Following the underwhelming box office performance of Red One and signing on to star in the A24 biopic The Smashing Machine, fans have been looking forward to finding out Johnson's next movie project and it looks like he is now eyeing to work with another A-lister and an acclaimed filmmaker.
Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in New Martin Scorsese Crime Movie
It was recently reported that Martin Scorsese has signed on to direct a crime drama movie that will star Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt.
The movie would center on a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss (based on a real figure) who battled encroaching rivals for control of organized crime in Hawaii.
The story is akin to Scorsese's previous films Goodfellas and The Departed and the main character would be similar to Robert De Niro's character Jimmy the Gent from Goodfellas.
There is no studio attached yet to the project as the package is still being shopped around, but it is expected to be one of the hottest projects in Hollywood this year.
Nick Bilton is attached to write the screenplay. Scorsese, Johnson, DiCaprio, and Blunt will also be involved as producers of the project.
Dwayne Johnson's Next Big Career Movie
The project clearly marks a major career move for Johnson as he is seemingly pivoting from big-budget blockbusters and focusing more on serious dramas.
Last year, he filmed the A24 sports biopic The Smashing Machine from Benny Safdie where he plays the role of former wrestler and MMA fighter Mark Kerr. Blunt also co-stars.
The movie is said to be a potential Oscar play for Johnson, who underwent a massive make-up transformation to play the role. It remains to be seen how it will perform when it releases in theaters later this year.
Another exciting piece here is the fact that Johnson and DiCaprio are finally working together in one project and it would be interesting to see what their chemistry would look like on the big screen.
