Marlon Wayans has weighed in on the negative reviews from critics surrounding his new horror film Him.

The famed comedian stars in the new movie produced by Jordan Peele. Due to the caliber of talent involved and promising trailers, there was a lot of anticipation for the film and expectation that it could be another acclaimed horror release this year. However, when the reviews came, the excitement died down as most critics expressed disappointment with the movie.

In his recent post on Instagram, Wayans offered his take on the negative critical reviews that Him has been receiving since the release of the film.

While he respects the opinion of the critics, he also shared how some of his past films were also not received well by critics, but ended up being considered as "classics" in later years, such as White Chicks. He encouraged his fans to still watch Him in theaters, despite the negative reviews.

"Just to be clear... I respect critics. Their job is to Critique. I respect their work. It shapes our industry. But an opinion does not always mean it’s everyone’s opinion. Some movies are ahead of the curve. Innovation is not always embraced and art is to be interpreted and it’s subjective," the comedian wrote on his post.

"I’ve had a career of making classic movies that weren’t critically received and those movies went on to be CLASSICS. So don’t take anyone’s opinion just go see for yourself. Love to all. Him in theaters now."

The negative reviews didn't necessarily have a huge impact on the film's box office, as it ended up having a domestic opening of $13.5 million, which is within the projections from analysts. However, some have argued that the numbers may have increased if the reviews were more enthusiastic.

What is Him About?

Him centers on Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life and identity to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.

Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White, a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White. But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.

Aside from Wayans, the cast includes Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, Maurice Greene, Guapdad 4000, and Tierra Whack. Justin Tipping directed the film while Peele served as producer.
