Donald Glover recently teased his plans for the long-awaited solo movie of fan-favorite Star Wars character Lando Calrissian.
Originally planned as a Disney+ series, the project was redeveloped last year into a feature film with Donald and his brother Stephen Glover attached to write the screenplay, and the actor is expected to reprise his role.
So far, no release date has been set yet for the long-gestated project, but fans have been looking forward to hearing what the Glover brothers have in store for the Lando-centric movie.
Donald Glover Promises Lando Movie Will Be 'More Fun'
In a recent interview, Glover was asked what he was trying to accomplish with the Lando Calrissian movie that he is currently developing.
He shared that he plans the project to be "more fun" compared to the other movies in the Star Wars franchise.
"I just want it to be fun. As a Star Wars fan myself, I think it's important that there just needs to be more fun being had, it's very hard to have fun right now," the actor said.
"It's tough, because there are very serious things happening and those are the only things that connect us, weirdly, so I get why things are serious. But part of the human experience, I believe, is we have a responsibility to have enjoyment. And I just feel like we're lacking in that department."
Glover added, "Star Wars, I love it, but sometimes it be super serious, sometimes it be way too serious. Everything that has to do with the Skywalkers is so serious."
"Lando, I think the best part about him, is he's a scoundrel and I feel like people can relate to that. He's probably like, 'Man, this war is wack, I need money,' which I feel everyone can relate to, so I just want it to be fun."
This is an exciting tease for fans who have been looking forward to hearing more details about the project, and it sounds like they're in for a fun treat as Glover will be taking a more enjoyable approach to the character's solo movie.
After all, Lando Calrissian has always been an adventurous type of character and has a fun and groovy vibe that you don't usually see in someone within the Star Wars galaxy and his presence alone could make the movie purely entertaining.
Hopefully, the project will end up moving forward as there's a lot of promise that the idea could entail and there is interest from fans in seeing Glover reprise the role.
