Doja Cat and Raye recently addressed the polarizing reactions to their James Bond tribute performance at the recent Oscars ceremony.

The two singers alongside Lisa of Blackpink performed a medley of James Bond theme songs as a tribute to the franchise and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. However, their performance received divisive reactions among fans online.

Doja Cat and Raye Address James Bond Oscars Performance

In their recent posts on Instagram, Doja Cat and Raye reflected on their Oscars performance and how they were nervous during the preparation.

For Doja Cat, she found the experience to be "scary" as she wanted to do justice to her performance of "Diamonds Are Forever."

"I never get to sing like that and what I did was brave and scary as fuck for me. I know a lot of people didn’t like it but a lot of people did and I feel good that I pushed myself," the Grammy winner wrote in her post.

"The song is a classic and I put a lot of work into it but the nerves got to me and a bitch hit some flats. I can’t wait to do something like that again. What a blessing that was. I feel amazing about the whole thing. Bye."

Meanwhile, Raye admitted that she was "nervous" when she performed Adele's "Skyfall" on stage and acknowledged that she's not on the same level as the original artist.

She wrote in her post, "Was sooo nervous to sing this song because no one can sing Adele like Adele, but I tried my very best. I am just so grateful to the Oscars Academy for this invitation to sing on this stage."

The Story Behind the James Bond Tribute Performance at the Oscars

The James Bond performance in the recent Oscars ceremony was done as a tribute to Governors Awards awardees Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Aside from Doja Cat, Raye, and Lisa, The Substance star Margaret Qualley also performed a dance number on stage to open the presentation.

Despite the star-power of the performance, viewers online have a polarizing reaction as they wondered whether the performance was a "funeral" for the former era of the franchise following Amazon's taking over of the creative control.

Media outlets have also considered the performance as one of the low-points of the ceremony and also questioned the intention behind the segment and the artists that they recruited to perform the tribute.
