Does Joel Die in The Last of Us TV Series?
You can now take a deep breath as Joel is still alive in The Last of Us and he may not die anytime soon, too, given the current narrative of the series. The HBO show has Pedro Pascal's Joel in the center of it all as he takes Ellie through the post-apocalyptic US after 20 years from the day of the outbreak.
Joel had a close call already, though, because in the first half of The Last of Us Episode 1, When You're Lost in the Darkness, Joel was almost shot and killed by a soldier by the outskirts of town but Tommy got to him in time to save him and kill the soldier.
Unfortunately, while Joel is still alive, the light of his life isn't anymore. The daughter of Joel, Sarah, died in the same scene where he was saved by Tommy. The first round of shots fired by the soldier grazed Joel and since he was carrying Sarah, it was her who got the direct hit and died.

Joel may be alive but he is not living, he is just getting by each day, trying to live and outlive others. With the arrival of his mission to deliver Ellie to another state, Joel gets a new purpose in life, possibly a new hope, and Ellie may be the new light that shines on his life.
In the game, Joel dies in The Last of Us Part II in the hands of a woman named Abby whose father, a Firefly physician, was killed by Joel in the first game. Abby did this in the game with a golf club. This puts Ellie on a vengeance spree in the game. While this is yet to happen in the TV series, Joel's gotta go at some point.
