It's not uncommon to watch a beloved protagonist die in a franchise series, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians will likely not be an exception. However, considering that the Disney Plus series is already making many significant changes from the story, does Jason Grace still die in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
WARNING: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, so READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Does Jason Grace Die in the Percy Jackson Books?
Jason Grace is the son of the Roman demigod Jupiter and the mortal Beryl Grace. Jason has an older sister named Thalia Grace, who is also a demigod at Camp Jupiter.
These characters don't technically show up until The Heroes of Olympus story arc comes into view. Still, the sequel series is a part of the official Percy Jackson timeline, which makes Jason and Thalia crucial in the overall storyline.
Despite being a year younger, Jason is said to be Percy's equal in strength and abilities.
In the Roman pantheon, Jason's father Jupiter is the equivalent of the Greek god Zeus, which longtime readers argued should mean Jason is actually much stronger than Percy. Unfortunately, where Jason falls short due is in experience on the battlefield, which Percy has a lot more of – and it shows.
In the Percy Jackson books, Jason Grace does indeed die, but not (only) due to his inexperience in combat.
How Did Jason Grace Die?
Jason Grace died in the third book of The Trials of Apollo series. Specifically, in The Burning Maze, at the hand of Emperor Caligula.
His death was foretold by a prophecy, according to which either Jason or his girlfriend, Piper, would die if they faced the emperor.
Upon figuring it out, Jason sacrificed himself to save his friends, letting himself be pierced through by multiple arrows. He defended their position and was eventually impaled by the emperor's spear.

Will Jason Grace Be in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
It is worth mentioning that Jason Grace is one of the major characters to appear in the Percy Jackson sequel novel series, The Heroes of Olympus.
The Disney Plus series adaptation focusses on the main timeline of events from Percy Jackson, so there isn't any overlap with Jason's one – at least not yet.
However, as Percy Jackson and the Olympians began airing on December 20th, chances of a sequel arriving anytime soon are quite slim. Consider the fact that the original book series has five seasons to make, as Rick Riordan told GoodReads:
"It's too early to say whether more adaptations are coming. That very much depends on how Percy does with Disney+ and Kane with Netflix. If they come out well and people watch them, then we can hope for more. I am excited for quite a few scenes in PJOTV that are from the book but did not appear in the movies."
In the meantime, the first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are available to stream on Disney+.
