Billy was struggling with drug and alcohol addiction following the rise of “The Six”. This addiction affects his performance as a lead singer. During the band’s performances, Billy has often been drunk and barely able to stand up straight. He even hits a series of bad notes.

At this time, Camila was already pregnant with their daughter, so she wasn’t going to the band’s tours anymore. When Billy suddenly stops communicating with Camila, she visits the band, and to her surprise, she catches Billy making out with a girl, while another is between his legs.

Camila leaves and Billy goes after her. But while they were talking, Billy does drugs. This disgusts Camila and she slaps him, telling him she doesn’t care what he does until the baby comes, but when it does come he will show up for her.

But Billy doesn’t show up when Camila gives birth because he didn’t want her and his daughter to see him in the state he was in. Teddy Price, the band’s music producer, drives him to the hospital, but Billy refuses to see Camila and his daughter. He vomits and leans on the door sobbing. While Teddy initially insists on Billy seeing Camila and his baby, he later understands Billy and drives him to a rehab facility.

Years later, Billy reflects that he thought he could handle the addiction and get it out of his system. He admits that it’s the “same old tired rock and roll tale”. But for him, that’s just the beginning.

On the day of Daisy Jones & The Six’s last performance in Chicago, Camila confronts Billy about his feelings for Daisy. Billy denies that something has been going on between him and Daisy, but he couldn’t bring himself to tell Camila that he doesn’t love Daisy. She then walks out on Billy.

Billy relapses on the day of the band’s last performance after thinking that Camila left him. A fan buys him a drink, and Billy ends up getting wasted, missing the band’s soundcheck. He ended up highly intoxicated before the band’s performance.

Backstage, Billy kisses Daisy. She realizes that he is drinking again. Billy does drugs and tells Daisy that Camila has left him. They passionately make out, but Daisy steps back into reality. Billy says they are both broken and should be broken together, but Daisy refuses.

During the encore, Daisy makes a speech to the audience about love, saying that love hurts, “but it doesn’t have to. Love doesn’t have to be bombs and tears, and blood. Love can be peace. And it can be beautiful.”

“And if you’re lucky enough to find somebody who lifts you up even when you don’t deserve it, that’s where the light is… find someone who helps you see the light,” Daisy continues.

This is Daisy’s implication that Billy should go after Camila. So Billy runs off stage and chases after Camila, who is leaving the hotel with her daughter. Camila and Billy argue, but their daughter Julia walks in. Later on, Billy leaves, promising Camila that he will work for it.

Billy relapses but goes to rehab and therapy and eventually wins Camila back. He shares with his daughter, Julia, how he was able to right some wrongs and how he never missed a school play or a soccer game. He also shares that he saw Julia become the amazing woman she’s become.

However, Camila gets sick and dies. Billy then tells Julia that Camila is the love of his life.

“I can say that now. I know it’s the truth,” shares Billy. “Give me all the platinum albums you want, the success, the fame, all of it. And I would hand it all back to you for one more minute with her,” Billy concludes.

So while Billy Dunne may have relapsed, he did recover eventually. And he ends up having a happy marriage with Camila and becoming a better father to Julia.
